West Jakarta Police Investigate Stray Bullet Incident Injuring Child in Cengkareng

Bid TIK Polda Kepri/”>Bid TIK Polda Kepri – Jakarta. West Jakarta Metropolitan Sub-regional Police are investigating an incident in which a six-year-old child was reportedly struck by a stray bullet while sleeping at home in Cengkareng, West Jakarta.

“We are conducting an investigation by gathering evidence and witness statements,” said Superintendent Arfan Zulkan Sipayung, the West Jakarta Police Head of Criminal Investigation, on Thursday (13/2/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, at approximately 10:15 pm. 

According to police reports, the child, identified as M, was sleeping with their parents in their home, which also serves as a bicycle repair shop, when a loud noise was heard, followed by the sound of something falling. Moments later, the child cried out in pain.

When the parents removed the child’s blanket, they were shocked to see a severe wound on the left thigh, just above the knee, with blood flowing profusely. In panic, they rushed the child to the nearest hospital for emergency treatment.

Police have confiscated a bullet projectile suspected to have caused the injury. The bullet is currently undergoing ballistic testing at the Forensic Laboratory of the Indonesian National Police (INP)’s Criminal Investigation Agency to determine the weapon type and source of the shot.

Authorities are continuing the investigation to identify the perpetrator of the shooting
