Bid TIK Polda Kepri – Jakarta. The Indonesian Military (TNI) has initiated criminal proceedings against several soldiers involved in online gambling, using funds from their respective units.

Major General Yusri Nuryanto, Commander of the TNI Military Police, revealed  on Thursday (14/11/2024) that some of the 4,000 military personnel implicated in the gambling activities were found to have misused official funds.

“They joined online gambling and pushed themselves into it, even using unit funds,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com..

Although Commander Yusri did not disclose the exact number of soldiers or the units involved, he emphasized that the issue was not related to the soldiers’ welfare, which he confirmed is adequate.

“The issue is that soldiers, who often use smartphones in their daily routine, are more prone to using gambling apps during their free time,” he explained.

TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto previously imposed sanctions on 4,000 soldiers following a report from the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) on online gambling activities.
