First Sergeant Hendri, the suspect in the shooting of a Subdenpom Belitung Military Police officer, Sergeant Major Rendi, managed to evade a joint task force’s encirclement at his hideout in Tanjungpandan, Bangka Belitung, on Tuesday (14/1/2025).
“The suspect escaped, even though the area was surrounded,” said a task force member involved in the operation, as reported by antaranews.com.
The task force, comprising personnel from Belitung SUb-regional Police, Belitung military command, Batalyon B of the Bangka Belitung Regional Police Mobile Brigade Unit and the Belitung Military Police Sub Detachment, had cornered Hendri at a residence on Jalan Anwar Aid.
Senior officials, including Belitung Police Chief Superintendent Deddy Dwitiya Putra,Belitung Military Command Liutneana Colonel Karuniawan Hanif Arridho, and others, were present during the operation. Negotiations urging the suspect to surrender peacefully failed, prompting the team to deploy tear gas.
Despite the measures, Hendri was not found inside the house, leading authorities to believe he had fled.
Hendri, a former Indonesian Military (TNI) member discharged in 2023 after deserting, was reported by his second wife for threats on Sunday. While being arrested, Hendri resisted, kidnapped Rendi, and fled.
Rendi was later discovered with a gunshot wound to his left shoulder and is currently being treated at RSUD Marsidi Judono Regional Hospital in Belitung.
