Bid TIK Polda Kepri – Surabaya. Surabaya Immigration Office and theJuanda Naval Air Base intercepted five Indonesians suspected of planning illegal kidney sales to India at Juanda International Airport on Saturday.
Head of the Surabaya Immigration Office, Ramdhani, said on Monday (11/11/2024) the arrest was prompted by inconsistencies during initial questioning at the departure counter.
“Our officers became suspicious when one traveler’s explanation didn’t match his documents. He claimed to be seeking medical treatment, but the medical records pointed to urological exams and kidney transplant preparation,” he explained, as quoted by antaranews.com.
Further investigation uncovered a network involving five Indonesians who allegedly used social media to arrange organ transactions. One suspect reportedly admitted to previously selling his kidney and recruiting other donors online.
The suspects, identified as AFH (31), AWSR (28), RAHM (29), MBA (29), and NIR (28), have been handed over to East Java Regional Police for further investigation. They could face up to seven years in prison and fines up to Rp 2 billion under the Health Law for illegal human organ trading.
