Inp.polri.go.id – Palembang. The South Sumatra Regional Police have disclosed the motive behind the assault on a medical intern at a café in Palembang on 10 December 2024, which stemmed from the assailant’s frustration over the victim’s perceived disrespectful behavior.

“The motive was that suspect FD was upset with the victim for not responding appropriately to Lina Dedy, the mother of the victim’s colleague. The suspect, who has worked for her for 20 years, acted spontaneously to assault the victim,” said Senior Superintendent M. Anwar Reksowidjojo, the South Sumatra’s Director of General Crime Investigation, during a press conference on Saturday (14/12/2924).

He clarified that the suspect acted independently and was not instructed by Lina Dedy, according to antaranews.com.

The incident reportedly began when the victim’s colleague, identified as Lady, was assigned to work a New Year’s Eve shift. Lina Dedy allegedly pressured the victim to swap shifts, which escalated tensions.

The case came to light after the suspect surrendered to police, admitting to the assault. Authorities have detained the suspect and collected evidence for further investigation.

The suspect faces charges under Article 351, Clause 2 of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of five years.

The assault gained widespread attention after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
