Bid TIK Polda Kepri – Batam. Karimun Sub-regional Police have confirmed on Sunday (20/10/2024) that a Malaysian tourist found dead in a hotel room in Karimun, Riau Islands, died due to a pre-existing illness.

The victim, identified as  71-year-old Baharani bin Juson, was discovered early on Saturday. He had arrived in Karimun with three friends through Tanjung Balai Karimun International Port the previous day for a holiday.

After checking in around 1 pm, the group visited the night market for coffee at 5 pm. Around 5.45 pm, Baharani complained of chest and abdominal pain. A friend tried to relieve his discomfort with a massage, but his condition worsened by 6.30 pm, prompting a visit to RSUD Muhammad Sani.

Medical staff provided treatment, and Baharani improved enough to return to the hotel around 9 pm. However, early the next morning, he awoke his friends, saying he felt unwell. Soon after, he lost consciousness and was pronounced dead shortly after medical assistance arrived.

The police confirmed his death resulted from a stomach ailment, and his body was taken for an autopsy before being buried at the family’s request.
