Bid TIK Polda Kepri – Jayapura. Papua Regional Police through the Drug Criminal Investigation Directorate has successfully secured a total of 85 kilogram of weed from Papua New Guinea via a drug smuggler to be sold in various cities of Papua throughout 2024.
The Director of Papua Regional Police Drug Criminal Investigation Directorate, Senior Superintendent Alfian says that the 85 kilogram of weed was seized with the arrest of 197 suspects from 156 cases. However, of the 156 cases only 134 cases are completed in 2024.
The weed from Papua New Guinea was smuggled through the footpath in Keerom Regency, Jayapura City in Papua Province, and in Merauke, and Boven Digoel Regency in South Papua.
“The weed was smuggled via a footpath that exists in four regencies/cities bordered with Papua New Guinea,” said Alfian on Tuesday (1/14/2025).
In his statement, he said that the marijuana was then smuggled to various cities using ships or planes.
Alfian, said that out of 29 regencies and cities in the jurisdiction of the Papua Regional Police, eight regions had no reports of arrests of the marijuana cases.
The eight regencies are Mappi, Yahukimo, Lanny Jaya, Central Mamberamo, Deiyai, Dogiyai and Intan Jaya.
