One Killed, Another Injured in Jakarta-Merak Toll Road Shooting

Bid TIK Polda Kepri/”>np.polri.go.id – Tangerang.  A shooting at Rest Area KM 45 of the Jakarta-Merak Toll Road early Thursday (2/1/2025) left one man dead and another critically injured. 

“We are conducting a thorough investigation and remain committed to apprehending the perpetrator,” said Tangerang City Sub-regional Police Chief Senior Superintendent Baktiar Joko Mujiono, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The attack reportedly stemmed from a dispute over a rental car, according to Senior Inspector Arif N. Yusuf, the Tangerang Police Chief of Criminal Investigation. 

Witnesses said the suspect, driving a black minivan, fired five shots at the victims. Victim IS (48) suffered gunshot wounds to the chest and left arm, while victim RM (60) was struck under the right armpit and pronounced dead at the scene.

The altercation allegedly began when the suspect tracked the rental car using GPS, leading to a confrontation at the rest area. Police recovered five 9mm bullet casings and the rental car, an orange vehicle.

The victim’s body has been sent to RSUD Balaraja Regional Hospital for forensic examination, while victim IS is undergoing intensive treatment at RSCM Hospital in Jakarta. Investigators are working to establish the suspect’s identity and motive.
