“Until now, there is no information indicating any Indonesian passengers on the Azerbaijan Airlines flight that crashed in Kazakhstan,” said Judha Nugraha,the Director for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens and Legal Entities at the Ministry, in a statement on Thursday (26/12/2024).
The Embraer 190 aircraft, carrying 69 passengers from Grozny, Russia, reportedly crashed three kilometers from Aktau Airport. The Azerbaijan Airlines indicated that the crash may have been caused by a collision with a flock of birds mid-flight, as reported by antaranews.com..
The Azerbaijani Prosecutor General’s Office has launched a criminal investigation into the incident under relevant provisions of the country’s penal code. Meanwhile, conflicting reports from Russian media suggest the crash could be linked to external factors, including alleged drone activity or defensive measures.
Of the 69 passengers, 38 were confirmed dead, including citizens of Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. The remaining 29 survivors were evacuated to local hospitals for treatment
