Bid TIK Polda Kepri/”>Bid TIK Polda Kepri – Jakarta. Head of the National Food Agency (NFA) Arief Prasetyo Adi said on Friday (10/1/2025) that the government’s decision to halt rice imports has contributed to a significant drop in global rice prices.
He explained that prices have declined from $640 per metric ton to as low as $430–$490 per metric ton.
Arief highlighted that this policy, part of President Prabowo Subianto’s food independence initiative, aligns with broader global trends, such as India resuming rice exports, as reported by antaranews.com.
Domestically, the move supports local farmers with better grain prices, as evidenced by the Farmer Exchange Rate (NTPP), which hit a five-year high of 120.30 in February 2024. Inflation has also remained low, reaching just 1.54% in 2024, the best level since 1958.
“This policy benefits farmers and stabilizes consumer prices, ensuring a balanced food ecosystem,” Arief said.
