Bid TIK Polda Kepri – Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto announced that Indonesia will cease rice imports in 2025, supported by nearly 2 million tons of reserves in Bulog warehouses.
“With our current stock approaching 2 million tons, I am confident that we will not need to import rice next year. Our reserves are sufficient,” he said during a cabinet meeting held at the Presidential Office on Monday (2/12/2024).
The President highlighted the importance of achieving food self-sufficiency as geopolitical tensions prompt nations to restrict food exports.
“In the face of a challenging geopolitical climate, we must ensure food independence,” he added, as quoted by antaranews.com.
Weather unpredictability remains a key challenge, with phenomena like El Niño and La Niña impacting agricultural productivity. However, despite these obstacles, President Prabowo reiterated his commitment to bolstering national food security.
Indonesia’s focus on self-sufficiency reflects its broader goals to strengthen resilience and reduce reliance on imports, ensuring stability amid global uncertainties.
