Human Trafficking Victim Dies in Cambodia, Forced into Online Gambling

Bid TIK Polda Kepri – Sukabumi.  Syamsul Diana Ahmad, a 30-year-old from Sukabumi, West Java, who fell victim to human trafficking, died in Cambodia after reportedly being forced to work as an online gambling operator.

“Syamsul had initially been promised a job in Singapore but was instead sent to Cambodia,” said Jejen Nurjanah, the Chairperson of the Indonesian Migrant Workers Union (SBMI) Sukabumi, on Saturday (14/9/2024).

While working in Cambodia, Syamsul earned money and even sent Rp 4 million to his family. He suddenly lost consciousness on 2 August 2024, and later died from a heart attack. His body was repatriated after a lengt process involving multiple government agencies.

The family was unaware of his true work conditions, believing he had gone to Singapore for employment.
