Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, confirmed on Sunday (29/12/2024) that France’s Justice Minister had sent an official letter on 19 December 2024, addressed to Indonesia’s Minister of Immigration and Corrections.
“If both countries agree, a practical agreement will be signed by the respective ministers,” he said, citing precedents like the repatriation of Mary Jane Veloso to the Philippines and Bali Nine members to Australia.
The request comes after a meeting on 20 December 2024 between Minister Yusril and French Ambassador Fabien Penone in Jakarta. While no formal drafts were exchanged, the discussion focused on the legal frameworks of both countries, according to antaranews.com.
