Director of Citizen Protection and Legal Aid at Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, confirmed on Tuesday (24/12/2024) that Sinaga is in stable condition but has faced psychological stress due to bullying in prison.
Speaking at a media briefing, he clarified that the alleged assault on Sinaga, widely discussed on social media, occurred in July 2023, not recently.
“The prison authorities have conducted a welfare check on Sinaga, and he has contacted his family in Indonesia twice to assure them of his situation,” Judha said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
Minister of Law and Human Rights Yusril Ihza Mahendra reiterated the government’s commitment to monitoring Sinaga’s case closely.
Sinaga, convicted by Manchester Crown Court in 2020, was found guilty of raping and sexually assaulting 48 men over a span of two and a half years. The court sentenced him to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 30 years before he can apply for parole.
