One Indonesian was detained in Atlanta, Georgia, on 29 January 2025, while the other was taken into custody in New York on 28 January 2025. The Ministry has engaged Indonesian Consulate General in Houston and Indonesian Consulate General in New York, both of which have provided legal assistance and confirmed the detainees are in good health.
In response, the Ministry has coordinated with six Indonesian diplomatic missions across the U.S. to establish standard procedures for handling similar cases.
“We are taking proactive measures to protect our citizens and ensure they receive proper legal support,” said Judha Nugraha, the Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens at the Ministry, as reported by antaranews.com.
