Bid TIK Polda Kepri – Jakarta. Investigators from the Cyber Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Indonesian National Police (INP) Criminal Investigation Unit arrested a person with the initials JS (25) on suspicion of fraud with deep fake videos. In this case, the suspect spread deep fake videos of President Prabowo and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani.
“This was done to make it appear as if they were making a statement that the government was offering assistance to people in need,” said the Director of Cyber Criminal Investigation of INP Criminal Investigation Unit, Brigadier General Himawan Bayu Aji on Friday (2/7/2025).
Himawan explained that JS got the video by downloading uploads from other people’s Instagram accounts. The suspect searched for videos using the keyword ‘prabowo give away’.
“After getting the video, the suspect then uploaded it to the Instagram account @indoberbagi2025 with 9,399 followers,” explained the Director.
The deep fake video was added with captions and phone numbers to attract people who were interested in getting funding assistance.
People who were interested, he said, had to pay an administration fee for the fund disbursement process.
To the police, suspect JS admitted to having been doing this since 2024 and had received a profit of IDR 65 million. The total number of victims of JS’s actions has reached around 100 people.
“The victims are spread to 20 provinces, with the largest number of victims coming from the provinces of East Java, Central Java, and Papua,” said the Director.
For his actions, the suspect was charged with Article 51 Paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 35 of Law Number 1 of 2024 concerning the Second Amendment to Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions. And Article 378 of the Criminal Code.
