Bid TIK Polda Kepri – Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra has directed the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections to investigate the escape of seven prisoners from the Salemba Correctional Facility in Central Jakarta.
Speaking on Thursday (14/11/2024), he confirmed that the investigation would determine whether the escape was due to negligence or intentional actions.
“If it was negligence, a warning will be issued. If it was intentional, appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken in accordance with employment regulations,” Ministry Yusril said, as reported by antaranews.com..
The prisoners, all drug offenders, escaped early on Tuesday, by cutting through the bars of their cell. The escape occurred around 7.50 am, during the shift change between the night and morning guard teams.
The incident has raised questions, especially since several closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at the facility were found to be inactive. The head of the Salemba facility is now under investigation and has been temporarily relieved of duty.
