Close Livestock Markets  If Foot and Mouth and Disease Detected: Agriculture Ministry

“The rise in Food and Mouth Disease cases in December 2024 must be taken seriously by regional authorities,” said  Agung Suganda, Director General of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health, on Saturday (4/1/2025). 

He said that the Minister of Agriculture has issued an official letter on the subject on Friday, according to antaranews.com

To curb the spread, the Ministry recommends closing markets, disinfecting them, and enhancing oversight of animal and product movements. Farmers are encouraged to report suspected foot and mouth disease cases via the iSIKHNAS system or a WhatsApp hotline to ensure swift intervention. 

The Ministry also stresses the need for collaboration between central governmental and regional administrations to protect livestock and maintain food security.

It predicts that the disease cases could peak until March 2025.
