The Sub-Directorate of Tipidter, Director of Special Criminal Investigation Unit, Bengkulu Police, together with the Directorate General of Legal Affairs of the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry (LHK), the National Park Center for Kerinci Seblat (TNKS) and the Bengkulu Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) succeeded in apprehending the perpetrators of the Trade in Protected Animals, namely the Sumatran Tiger.
Head of Public Relations of the Bengkulu Police, Pol. Grand Commissioner Sudarno revealed that 1 of the 3 perpetrators was arrested on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at around 17:00 WIB in Lubuk Sini Village, Taba Penanjung District, Central Bengkulu Regency.
Pol. Grand Commissioner. Sudarno explained that police officers conducted surveillance on three perpetrators who were carrying two cardboard boxes containing the skin and bones of a Sumatran tiger who were waiting for buyers. Then without hesitation the police approached the three perpetrators to make arrests.
From the pursuit of the perpetrators of the trade in protected animals, the Bengkulu Police managed to arrest one of the suspects, namely MA (46) whose address is at Kelindang Atas Village, Merigi Sub-district, Central Bengkulu Regency.
“In addition to the perpetrators, police officers managed to secure evidence in the form of skin and bones of a Sumatran tiger complete with a wet head, body, legs and tail,” explained the Head of Public Relations of the Bengkulu Police.
The perpetrator has violated Article 40 paragraph (2) Jo Article 20 paragraph (2) letter d of Law no. 5 of 1990 concerning the Conservation of Biological Natural Resources and Their Ecosystems with a maximum imprisonment of 5 years and a maximum fine of 100 million rupiah. Meanwhile, officers are still pursuing the two perpetrators whose identities have been identified.
