Bid TIK Polda Kepri – Lampung. Police are now investigating the murder case of a mother murdering her own child. The mother, Umi Dafisah, allegedly was suffering from mental disorder of baby blues syndrome, leading to the horrifying incident.
The murder of Umi to her own child occurred at Way Areng Village, Mataram Baru district on Saturday (1/11/2025) at 04.00 am.
The Head of Lampung Regional Police Public Relations Division, Senior Superintendent Umi Fadillah Astutik confirms the incident and reported that the police are now investigating the crime location and gathering witness statements.
“UD reported having murdered her own child who was only six months old. Right after that, UD tried to end her own life by drinking insecticide,” said Umi on Sunday (1/12/2025).
From the criminal location examination, police found a slash wound on the left hand of the baby. Moreover, the insecticide was also found at the location.
“We suspect that the mother was depressed and suffering from baby blues syndrome,” said Umi.
Neighbors also said that UD already has three children with her husband working out of town. As of now, UD is undergoing treatment at the hospital and further investigation on the case continues.
The police appealed to the public to be more aware of the psychological condition of mothers following labor.
“We invite all parties, both families and the surrounding environment, to be more sensitive to the condition of mothers who have just given birth, so that the potential for depression can be handled immediately,” she concluded.
