Bid TIK Polda Kepri/”>Bid TIK Polda Kepri – Banda Aceh. Aceh Regional Police,  the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok and Thai authorities, repatriated an East Aceh resident kidnapped in Thailand.

Investigations revealed that the victim, identified as Bustami, was lured to Thailand by two Indonesians under false promises of financial assistance. Upon arrival on 28  December 2024, he was abducted and held captive in Chiang Mai.

His brother later received a ransom demand, citing an outstanding debt linked to a transnational drug syndicate.

Thai police launched a rescue operation, but Bustami managed to escape before authorities intervened. He was found unharmed at Bangkok Railway Station on 29 January 2025.

“This case highlights the growing threat of transnational crime and the importance of international cooperation,” said Aceh Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Joko Krisdiyanto.

The suspects are believed to be part of a global narcotics trafficking network.
