Bid TIK Polda Kepri – Jakarta. Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that Apple’s proposed $100 million investment does not meet the country’s fairness criteria.

“Based on our technical assessment, the proposal does not meet the fairness standards we’ve set,” he said during a press briefing in Jakarta on Monday (25/11/2024).

Apple’s investment proposal was assessed based on four key aspects: investment parity with other countries, comparison to investments by other mobile and electronics brands in Indonesia, value creation for the econo, and job creation.

The minister emphasized that Apple’s obligations extend beyond the proposal. The company must first settle its remaining $10 million investment commitment from 2023, separate from the proposed investments for 2024-2026, which are tied to obtaining the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) certification.

The government expected Apple’s investment to exceed $100 million to foster local manufacturing industries and integrate them into the company’s global supply chain.

Negotiations with Apple are ongoing.
