Indonesian Army to Prioritize Modernization of Defense Equipment in 2025

“We aim for a combination of modernizing existing weapons systems and purchasing new ones that align with the latest operational requirements,” said Brigadier General Wau Yudhayana, the Head of the Ar Information Service, on Tuesday (31/12/2024), as reported by antaranews.com.

Commander Wau emphasized that modernization is necessary to counter increasingly sophisticated military technology from other countries, ensuring a more effective defense and attack capability. However, he reassured that the current Ar weapon systems are still adequate for safeguarding Indonesia’s territorial integrity.

The commander also highlighted the importance of collaborating with domestic defense industries to foster independence in the defense sector, in line with the government’s policy. 

However, he did not provide specific details about which equipment would be purchased or the allocated budget for the modernization program.
