Bid TIK Polda Kepri – Jakarta.  Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Budi Gunawan, revealed on Thursday (14/11/2024) that 8.8 million Indonesians have been involved in online gambling activities in 2024.

According to data from economic intelligence, 80% of these participants are from lower-income groups and include many young people as reported by antaranews.com.

The discovery has prompted significant concern, leading to the establishment of an “Online Gambling Desk” to combat the issue. The desk is one of seven initiatives designed to expedite President Prabowo Subianto’s 100-day action plan. It is led by the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

Minister Budi Gunawan emphasized, “We are committed to eradicating online gambling, targeting the actors, the activities, and the infrastructure supporting them, including the payment systems.”

The primary targets of the desk are the actors behind online gambling, the activities themselves, and their supporting infrastructure, including payment systems.

Since its formation, the desk has uncovered several major cases, including an online gambling operation within the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs. The Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police have arrested 18 suspects, including civilians and ministry employees.
