Bid TIK Polda Kepri – Dumai. The Indonesian Navy’s Quick Response Unit in Dumai, Riau Province, foiled an attempt to traffic 17 Indonesian migrant workers (PMIs) and 24 Bangladeshi citizens to Malaysia via sea.
The operation, conducted on Saturday, also led to the arrest of two suspected smugglers, identified as YN (43) and BH (39).
“Based on intelligence reports, we acted to intercept illegal human trafficking through Pelintung Beach,” said Navy Colonel Boy Yopi Hamel, the Commander of the Dumai Naval Base, on Sunday (1/12/2024).
The operation involved both sea and land units. A team led by Lieutenant Arisman intercepted a speedboat off the coast, while a land team, led by Lieutenant Colonel Arifin, detained a driver dropping off 10 foreign citizens at the beach. Further investigations uncovered more individuals preparing to cross to Malaysia.
The detained people have been handed over to immigration and labor protection authorities while the suspects are now in police custody and face human trafficking charges.
